Abstract

This document describes the reference architecture for running Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Relationship Management (CRM) on Microsoft Azure Local using Lenovo ThinkAgile MX650 V4 infrastructure. The document provides planning guidance, design considerations, and best practices for IT professionals, architects, consultants, and engineers involved in deploying the solution.

Many organizations want to or must keep sensitive customer data within their own infrastructure due to privacy regulations or internal policies. The solution creates a resilient and scalable on premises platform that addresses increasing demands for data governance, regulatory compliance, and cost control. Hosting Dynamics 365 CRM locally allows full ownership of data, tighter integration with existing systems, and compliance with strict data residency requirements. It also helps organizations avoid unpredictable cloud consumption costs, making stable and long running workloads more financially predictable to operate within their own data centers.

The reference architecture uses mature enterprise technologies optimized for on premises environments. Azure Local enables Azure services to operate within a customer’s data center, providing a hybrid cloud experience while maintaining full data residency and predictable costs. Dynamics 365 CRM runs locally on this infrastructure, supported by SQL Server 2025 as the primary data platform and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) on Azure Local for secure remote access.
